Useful free tools from the Foundation Center

It appears that the Foundation Center has improved its free tools.

Today, I found the new improved Foundation Finder

Which according to the literature, provides basic information on more than 86,000 grantmakers in the U.S.-—including private foundations.

They seem to have also improved their 990 search, which provided four years of 990s for a small Portland Foundation. Guidestar Basic only provides three years of 990s.

In addition, I found this alphabetical list of foundations, officers, and donors. I find this very helpful. I usually use Wealth Engine for this information, but I have found foundations and officers on this list that aren’t listed in the Wealth Engine database, so I have started using this to double check.

These will in no way replace a good Foundation Center/Big Online product, but can be very helpful for researchers with limited resources.
